本标准适用于石油邻二甲苯中的已知烃类杂质含量及邻二甲苯纯度的测定。杂质的最小测定浓度为0.01%(m/m),邻二甲苯纯度为90%以上，如果有未知杂质存在，则不能测定其绝对纯度。
